Day-by-Day Itinerary

Upon arrival at Paro international airport, you will be received by a representative of our company and escorted to the hotel. In the afternoon, you will be taken to visit the National Museum & Paro fortress, called Rimpong Dzong. In the evening, you can get a feeling of Paro town by taking a leisurely evening stroll. There will be a welcome dinner hosted for you. Overnight at hotel.

This trek begins at Gunitsawa Village where you pass the army post. At the army check post your trek permit (provided by your tour operator) will be checked and endorsed. The campsite is on the opposite side of the river, not far from Gunitsawa.

A rest day in Jangothang offers several day-hike options, with impressive views of lakes and snow-capped peaks such as Jomolhari and Jichu Drake. You may also spot blue sheep on the upper slopes. Jangothang is an ideal place to acclimatise.

The trail climbs to Yelila Pass at 4,930 m. On a clear day, the pass offers excellent views of Jomolhari, Tserimgang, and Masanggang.

The trail follows the Thimphu Chhu through rhododendron forests and past beautiful waterfalls. As the valley narrows, the path moves onto the slopes and gradually ascends to the ruins of Barshong Dzong.

The trail descends to the Thimphu Chhu river valley through dense forests of rhododendron, birch, conifer, maple, and bamboo, then climbs to pastureland. Camp is set in a meadow.

Trail: ~500 m ascent, 930 m descent

The trail continues through forested terrain, winding up and down over a small pass. Langurs may be seen along the way. At Dodena, you exit Jigme Dorji National Park and drive to Thimphu for an overnight stay at the hotel.

Trekking Exploring

In the morning, visit the Memorial Chorten, a large stupa built in memory of the Third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the Father of Modern Bhutan. Continue to Changangkha Monastery, built in the 12th century, followed by the Takin Zoo. A short drive from the zoo takes you to Sangaygang, which offers panoramic views of Thimphu Valley. You will also visit a nunnery. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the arts and crafts school to see Bhutanese art in progress, followed by a stop at the Post Office. In the evening, visit Tashichho Dzong, the centre of Bhutanese governance and an icon of Bhutanese architecture. It houses the King’s office, the Throne Room, and several ministries, and serves as the summer residence of the Je Khenpo and senior clergy. The day ends at Buddha Point, home to a large statue of Maitreya Buddha and another sweeping view of Thimphu Valley.

Tour Drive

After breakfast, drive back to Paro through the scenic valley landscape. On arrival, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples, where pilgrims come to offer prayers and spin the prayer wheels. Continue to Drukgyel Dzong, a historic fortress built to commemorate Bhutanese victory over Tibetan invasions. On a clear day, the site offers beautiful views towards Mt. Jomolhari, creating a meaningful connection with the trek completed earlier in the journey. Later, enjoy some free time in Paro town for a relaxed walk, last-minute shopping, or a quiet evening before departure. Overnight at the hotel.

Tour Drive

After breakfast, your guide and driver will transfer you to Paro International Airport for your onward journey. As you leave Bhutan, take with you lasting memories of the Jomolhari trek, the high mountain passes, peaceful valleys, sacred monasteries, and the warm hospitality experienced throughout the journey. Your representative will assist with airport formalities before you bid farewell to the Land of the Thunder Dragon.
